Pediatric Endocrinology

A medical specialist known as pediatric endocrinology focuses on endocrine gland diseases in children, including diabetes, abnormalities in physical growth and sexual development, and more. Depending on the age range of their patients, pediatric endocrinologists treat children from infancy through late adolescence and young adulthood. The most common condition in the field is type 1 diabetes, which accounts for at least 50% of a typical clinical practice. Growth disorders, particularly those that can be treated with growth hormones, rank as the second most frequent problem. Pediatric endocrinologists are often the primary physicians involved in the treatment of infants and children with intersex disorders.

This field of medicine treats a variety of adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary problems, as well as hypoglycemia and other forms of hyperglycemia in children, puberty variations, and other conditions. Numerous pediatric endocrinologists are experts in inborn metabolic mistakes, adolescent gynecology, lipid metabolism, bone metabolism, and lipid metabolism. A three-year fellowship in pediatric endocrinology is required after a three-year pediatric internship. The fellowship is very research-oriented and intellectually focused, though perhaps not as much as in earlier decades, like the specialization.
